George Wallace was Governor of Alabama during the Civil Rights movement. His role in the movement was when African-American students Vivien Malone and James Hood tried to integrate the University of Alabama, he personally stood in the doorway and blocked the path into the school. He ran unsucessfully for President and later spent the rest of his life apologizing.
